About John Foxglove

John Foxglove is the visionary author behind the acclaimed Star of Elster series, a young adult fantasy epic that has captivated readers with its inventive depth and heart. With the publication of Worlds Lost and Found and its sequels, Foxglove has established himself as a master of meticulous world-building, creating the vibrant land of Dellian — a world where the laws of magic are as tangible and consistent as the laws of physics.

Foxglove’s creativity is most evident in his unique magic system, which relies on the manipulation of specialized materials like kanosis ore and elmatite, and the consistent, logical way magical actions (or affects) work. His imaginative landscapes are equally breathtaking, ranging from the colossal 400-foot trees of the Caleigh Forest to the treacherous, jagged reefs known as the Teeth of Melkhior. These settings provide a rich backdrop for his original creatures, such as the loyal, winged griffyns and the ancient, terrifying Cinerie drakes.

Beyond his skill for fantasy construction, Foxglove is celebrated for his relatable, three-dimensional characters. He expertly weaves themes of identity, belonging, and the enduring power of friendship into high-stakes narratives that span across two worlds. Whether he is detailing a narrow escape from a shadowy conspiracy or the humorous confusion of a magical traveler encountering Earth’s technology, John Foxglove’s storytelling remains a testament to the boundless possibilities of the human imagination.

The Journey

John Foxglove is an engineer by training and spends his days designing devices like laser guns and robots (for medical applications). He uses the same creative approach to telling stories, exploring ideas like how science and engineering might work in a world with magic, and the exciting adventures that result when a group of friends could work together to overcome danger.

Beyond the Page

When he isn’t busy writing the next installment of The Star of Elster, John can be found in North Carolina with his wife, three kids, and one cute dog (who is much smaller than Rhuvie).
